How does the knowledge of God's creation and providence help us?

That Sunday evening in church, the Pastor asked the congregation, Heidelberg Catechism #28. It grounds us back to reality and gives us 5 years to recuperate before the next one graduates. God had a reason for gifting us our children so spread out. Till a little voice in the back seat asked, "Can we listen to a story?" I tearfully replied, "it's not him I am crying for.its Me!"Īnd so we drove home. Jonathan hugged me on Sunday and gently reminded me that David is doing what he wants to do, he will be takenĬare of, he is in the Lord's hands, and that he will be just fine. Its where those two waves meet that bring on the tears. On the one hand we joined his anticipation and excitement of life "after graduation"Īnd on the other hand we dreaded the change, knowing that things would never be the same. The problem comes when two emotions collide. It is possible to dread something so much that just getting it done would almost feel better. Sunday morning came with a feeling that was akin to relief. In light of the alternative, it was a fair trade. Helped him/herself to a generous reward and left the ID intact.

It turned out that he left his wallet at a nearby Movie Theater the night before and thankfully the person who found it Googled nearby Motor Vehicle Branches and traced David's steps over the last 24 hours. His parents calmly hyperventilated, (isn't that the greatest Oxymoron?), There was no panic on his part whatsoever, despite the fact that he would not be able to leave the next morning without his ID. Planning dinners, parties, his favorite meals,Īnd even the last minute road bump on Saturday afternoon when he casually mentioned The busyness of it all was a great distraction to us. Had a few days of parties to celebrate his Grad and upcoming departure. David went through his room, had mini-auctionsįor his brothers to get rid of the things he no longer wanted, cracked jokes with his usual dryĪnd a tad sarcastic sense of humor, enjoyed all his favorite foods and We spent the first delightful week in the Keys, fishing, snorkeling and making memories. Thankfully the weeks between David's Grad and departure were happy times for our family.

This was followed by a nerve-wracking bus ride to Marine Boot camp, Parris Island (South Carolina). Then climbed into a minivan with 2 recruits and 2 sergeants for a night in Tampa. He posed for pictures, hugged his teary mother, calm father and uncertain brothers, Today David left with ID, $20 and a toothbrush.
